Interview with Macy Blackburn from Texas Tech Soccer

Cybbi Barton

Coming from a family full of Red Raiders, it's almost like the story continued to write itself when Macy Blackburn decided to come to Texas Tech University to play soccer. And we are so grateful for that. You'll hear in our video of her accomplishments and style of play, and you'll also get an inside perspective about what it meant to Macy to overcome a couple injuries.

Macy Blackburn is set to return to the 2024 after only competing in half of the season last year. What I found to be so insightful about this interview with Macy is how profound her outlook has been with challenge after challenge.

"Honestly, I've been super lucky where I'm at now in my life and my age and knowing my identity isn't in my sport and that was something I struggled with just like any athlete can tell you. In a weird way, I'm grateful for it."

THAT'S OUR MACY BLACKBURN!

Through this interview, Macy talks about the accelerated progress of Texas Tech Soccer and what makes it the right fit for her.

"We're not just a great soccer program. We are a great University. Lubbock and the people here are some of the best people in the world. Everyone loves Tech and backs this school and it's so cool to see the support Red Raiders have for each other."

And if anyone knows about support, Macy is the one of the best to do it. While Macy was on crutches, and in a boot, with a cowbell, she was still hustlin' out on the pitch after a Red Raider victory using any resource possible to join the celebration.

"If they think I'm not going in that pile, they're crazy. Matt threw my crutches down and literally carried me into the mosh pit."

Macy Blackburn is an incredible soccer player. We knew that and got to see that. With this interview, I bet you'll leave thinking about what an incredibly important pillar Macy is to this program, Lubbock, and beyond.

"As great as soccer is, it can be taken away so quickly. If I could have anything that people look back on about me is that I loved God and I loved people well."

We love you back, Macy!
